Understanding the Addington WordPress Theme

By Mark Buhagiar
Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

This is a fairly long video at about 45 minutes but it goes through in detail how to go into the back end of a WordPress site and update the posts, pages and the widgets elements.

The video specifically goes through using the Addington Theme as an example but most of the video is applicable to all of the sites we create.

Snagit To Capture Text, Video and Web Page Images

By Mark Buhagiar
Friday, August 28th, 2009

I have been using SnagIt now for about a year and a half. I find it particularly useful for grabbing parts of images and screen shots. It allows you to capture those difficult to capture images, like a whole web page even though most of it may not be visible. It has the ability to scroll through the page and capture the whole site as one picture.

Today I received an email from Techsmith, the creators of Snagit (they also make Camtasia) and they spoke about using Snagit to capture text from images, video and webpage images. This last feature really caught my attention. There is nothing worse then having to go through a website and pull all the images out one by one. It is tedious and just takes a long time. With Snagin you can now give it the URL of .....

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

Yesterday I was on a call with Andrew and Daryl Grant. They are famous for their ability to make serious money out of selling eBooks.

This is the system that they use. They emphasize that this is a system that works for them and following it will most likely make you money. If you decide not to follow it or modify it then your results are likely to change as well.

The system is basically broken up into six steps. You start out with brainstorming a selection of twenty potential topics........

By Mark Buhagiar
Sunday, May 24th, 2009

It is day three and a number of us have had a late night celebrating after the book launch. But still we are here rearing to go. It has been a great couple of days with Darren Stephens and Andrew and Daryl Grant. They do provide exceptional value and never hold back on content.

The other great thing about these seminars is that you get to meet a lot of nice people doing the same thing that you are doing but from their own unique angle and perspective. Weather you are Marketing on the internet, writing a book, or both, this profession tends to be done at home by yourself. Events such as these are great for catching up with people with the same enthusiasm as you have. There are boundless opportunities the be had, one just needs to chat a little and find them.

Today we looked at the mechanics of the book. How to create an effective book title?, the ISBN, the forward, testimonials and much more. We also went through with Andrew and Daryl Grant on specific tasks on how to Market your book and looked at various models on how to market the backend.

How to Write a Best Seller with Darren Stephens - Part 2

By Mark Buhagiar
Sunday, May 24th, 2009

Day 2 at Darren Stephens "How to Write a Best Seller" Seminar. It was an interesting day with many more practical steps, worksheets and exercises. Many of the participants are starting to complain of information overload and this is my main motivation for writing it all down in this blog post.

Wrap Up from Day 1

The first thing in the morning a number of questions were asked regarding topics from the previous day. Here are a couple of the answers:

  • Your second book (sequel) should be ready 3 months after the first one has been published. This ensures momentum with the buyers and it makes it less likely that the retailers will remove the first book off the shelves.
  • The best time of the year to release a book depends on the niche the book is in. For example if your book is on weight loss then the best time of the year is February when all the people who have failed to loose weight (as part of their New Years Resolutions) now turn to books to find some help.
  • ....

How to Write a Best Seller with Darren Stephens - Part 1

By Mark Buhagiar
Sunday, May 24th, 2009

I have Just come back from day one at the Darren Stephens Seminar entitled "How to Write a Best Seller". Darren has published over 21 books and each one of them has become a best seller. The book that he has become most famous for, was one he published with his business partner, Dr John Gray. "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus" was first published in May 1992 and has been on the best sellers list for years. It has gone on to generate millions of dollars not just from book sales but more importantly from the follow up books, the board game, merchandising and licensing fees. In all that book ended up being a substantial business all of itself. This seminar was part of the "Our Internet Secrets" that is run by Andrew and Daryl Grant".

Darren started the seminar by talking about the attributes of a good entrepreneur....

16 Rules to Creating Effective Web Pages Which Convert Effortlessly

By Mark Buhagiar
Thursday, May 14th, 2009

With Just ten seconds to convince a new visitor not to click away from your website, you better make sure that you have a good headline which entices them to stick around and read further. If your visitor is a women then you only have five seconds.

And it doesn't just stop there. As the person reads down the page they are constantly judging weather to stay and read further or surf away to next bright shiny object. Every element on your page should encourage them to hang around with the ultimate goal of conversion.

A point that most people (especially small businesses) miss out on when putting their web site together, is that they don't have a clear idea of the outcome that they want. To write good copy you must have a defined purpose in mind. The good internet marketers do this quite well. They have a...
