Setting Up Your Website Hosting

By Mark Buhagiar
Thursday, August 13th, 2009

Setting up a webpage requires us to have a hosting account. I personally use Kiosk. You are free to use any but remember to set your DNS to point to the name servers of the company you are using for hosting.

Depending on the type of hosting account you have, will dictate what steps you need to create your account. There are two choices. The type of account I have allows me to create an individual cPanel account for each domain. This type of account is usually more expensive but it allows you to keep all your domains separated and easy to work on. Each domain has its own server allocation for space and monthly bandwidth.

The other type of account is normally less expensive but it just gives you just the one cPanel for all your domains. Your first domain is setup as usual but .....

DNS - Setting Up Your Domain To Point To Your Hosting

By Mark Buhagiar
Thursday, August 13th, 2009

When you browse the Internet your Web browsers looks up something called DNS (Domain Name System) to map a domain name e.g. markbuhagiar.com to an IP address e.g. 61.95.78.225. In very basic and general terms, computers on the Internet each have a unique IP address. Those computers (usually servers) in turn hold the files that make up your web page.

So if we think of the analogy of using the physical White Pages to look up somebody's phone number, the first thing we do is look up their name and then once we have found it, we scan across and get their phone number. This is exactly what DNS does. The browser asks DNS to look up an IP address for it. It gives DNS the name (e.g. markbuhagiar.com) and DNS responds with an IP address (like the phone number) of the server which currently holds your web site files.

In a similar way to you then picking up the phone and ringing that phone number you looked up, the browser then "calls" the web server using that IP address that DNS gave it. I am being a little bit simplistic because there are a bunch of other factors (e.g. ports, host headers, etc) which come into play but all of that is for the IT geeks not you.

All you need to know is that.....

Creating a Self Hosted WordPress Blog

By admin
Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

Blogging is one of those things that Google really loves. That and videos. When people talk about Search Engine Optimization or SEO for short the two things that top the lists are Blogs and Videos (preferably ones hosted on YouTube). By the way Google owns YouTube so it stands to reason that they would like it.

Anyway, you have a couple of choices when it comes to creating a blog. You can use one of the web based blogging services or you can host one yourself. I know many of you are thinking, why on earth would you host your own when perfectly good web based ones (which require little to no technical skills to set up) are available.

The short answer is that the information on a Self Hosted Blog is your own and no one else owns it. The information on a...

Registering Domains Using Keyword Research Tools

By Mark Buhagiar
Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

Registering a domain is easy enough if you know the domain you want to register and one or two variations. You just need an account with a Domain Registration company such as GoDaddy or CheapCheapDomainNames and you just follow the prompts. Enter in your credit card details and you are away.

The problem comes when your choice of domain name is not available or you need to register a domain in a niche that you are not immediately familiar with, or where that niche is in a very competitive market. You can easily waste a number of hours whilst you ponder the choices available to you and check the availability of each one.

This video shows you an easy way to short cut the process....
